A Pause for Tea, A Place for Connection

A note from Kas

There’s a moment that happens here sometimes.
Quiet…almost easy to miss.
It’s usually right after the teacups are filled.
The steam lingers, and soft fruity and floral notes begin to fill the air.
And then… something shifts.
The conversation softens.
Phones remain face down a little longer.
No one seems in a hurry to be anywhere else.
That’s the moment I hoped to create when we opened Panache.
It Was Never Just About Tea
I didn’t set out to build a place where people simply come to eat.
I wanted to create something that feels like an exhale; a gentle escape from the routine and the ordinary.
Something that reflects the tables I grew up around…
where food took time, conversations lingered, and no one watched the clock too closely.
Those moments stayed with me.
They still find their way into what we do here...
sometimes quietly, sometimes more intentionally.
In the flavors we choose.
In the way we serve.
Some of those flavors take me back to South Africa to time spent around the table with family, sharing sweets and savories made by hand, with care, by the incredibly talented women in my family.
Afternoon tea, in its traditional sense, has always centered around gathering.
Here, we’ve shaped it into something that feels like us.
A little softer.
A little more personal.
A little less formal and a bit more grounded.
What Happens When You Sit Down
When guests arrive, there’s often a sense of curiosity.
Some are experiencing afternoon tea for the first time.
Some are celebrating something special.
Some are simply looking for something different to do.
Others are returning to something familiar from their travels.
We welcome you in, guide you through the menu, and help you select your teas.
The table begins to come to life.
And then the tiers arrive.
This is one of my favorite moments not because I see it, but because I hear it.
I’m usually in the kitchen, just out of view, but the shift is immediate ... a sense of surprise, a bit of excitement, that quiet “wow” that always seems to follow.
Tea sandwiches, made to order - delicate, yet full of flavor.
Buttermilk tea scones, freshly baked and served with Chantilly cream instead of the heavier clotted cream - just a little lighter, and a reflection of how I grew up enjoying them.
And a curated selection of sweets that offer a small, satisfying finish.
But what matters most isn’t what’s on the table.
It’s what happens around it.
The Conversations That Happen Here
There’s something about tea that gently changes the pace of everything.
People linger longer than they expected.
They talk about things they hadn’t planned to.
They laugh a little more.
Sometimes they settle into a quiet that feels comfortable.
We’ve seen old friends reconnect.
Families and friends celebrating milestones, both big and small.
Guests who arrived simply to try something new and left with a new tradition.
It’s never rushed.
It’s never just a meal.
And that’s very intentional.
Why We Do Things the Way We Do
You may notice a few things that feel a little different here.
Each guest has their own experience.
The menu is thoughtfully set.
Reservations matter.
That’s not about rules. It’s about protecting the experience for each guest.
When everything is prepared with care, and the pace is allowed to unfold naturally, it creates space for something more than just dining.
It becomes an experience you can truly be present in.
A Different Way to Spend an Afternoon in Waterloo
There are many ways to fill an afternoon.
Most are busy.
Most pass quickly.
This is something different.
A chance to slow down without needing a reason.
To sit across from someone and be fully present.
To enjoy something that isn’t rushed, packaged, or on-the-go.
If You’ve Been Meaning to Visit
Maybe you’ve driven by and wondered what it’s like inside.
Maybe you’ve seen a photo or read a review.
Maybe someone shared their experience with you.
Perhaps you’ve been saving it for a special occasion.
Or perhaps… you don’t need a special occasion at all.
Some of the most meaningful visits happen on the most ordinary days.
There’s a seat waiting.
A teapot ready to be poured.
And a moment, quiet and simple, that may stay with you a little longer than you expected.
Panache Tea Boutique
A pause for tea. A place for connection.
A note from Kas
Panache was created from a love of gathering, thoughtful food, and the kind of moments that linger a little longer than expected.
What we serve and how we serve it is shaped by those early experiences around the table, along with years spent in the kitchen learning how meaningful food can be when it’s prepared with care.
